Günther Holler-Schuster presents "Le Mans"

A film evening in the series "my own private cinema"

  • 26.01.2010, 07:00 PM

Entrance free!

The film Le Mans is a meditation about speed and the futility of life, punctuated by racing. Various structures – relating not just to racing – are condensed into a multi-layered texture of movement. The plot is minimal. The first rudimentary dialogues set in only after 40 minutes. The inescapability of the racing driver who always operates at the limit is put across in the example of the spectacular Le Mans 24-hour endurance race for sports cars. Featuring Steve McQueen and the magnificent Siegfried Rauch, this film is a unique experience, and not just for motor racing fans. And don’t let’s forget that two winners of the classic race – Jochen Rindt (1965) and Helmut Marko (1971) – came from Graz!
Director: Lee H. Katzin, 1971, 104 mins, German

"Le Mans" (1971)

my own private cinema
... is an unusual film series. The Kunsthaus Graz regularly invites someone with passion and great enthusiasm for film as a medium to present a personal favourite film. For the public, this is a chance to see a film through the eyes of someone for whom the film is something special. On the way, unexpected light is thrown on genres, subject matter, individual interests and perspectives. In co-operation with KIZ RoyalKino.
