Katarina Löfström

With Little Star, Swedish artist Katarina Löfström explores the potentialities of the BIX media façade. Little Star plays upon the suspense between the hectic pace of images that overwhelm us and the desire to contemplate the pattern: here the slow and horizontal movements of zoomed-in forms on the façade constitute a complementary rhythm and ambiance to the dynamics of Kunsthaus Graz’ architecture and its urban surroundings. The animation is based on a deconstruction of an islamic Girih pattern.

Löfström’s Little Star was an integral part of the project Protections. This is Not an Exhibition presented at the Kunsthaus Graz in 2006, in co-production with steirischer herbst festival.
