Oligodiodon, a Porcupinefish from the Middle Miocene (Badenian) of Styria, Austria (Diodontidae, Osteichthyes
by Ortwin Schultz
Abstract: A fragmentary jaw from the Badenian, Middle Miocene, of Retznei, Styria
(Austria), is determined as coming from a porcupinefish (Diodontidae). It is the first
evidence of this family from Austria and the whole Paratethys. The number of toothlayers and their inclination to the mastication surface in combination with the small distance between the trituration plates, enables a determination as Oligodiodon sp.
