The Seismological Station ARSA at the Educational Mining Centre in Arzberg (Styria)

by Wolfgang Lenhardt & Peter Melichar

Abstract: The seismic station in Arzberg constitutes an elemental part of the seismic network of Austria which is used by the Seismological Service of Austria to analyze local and world-wide earthquakes. The station was installed near the Mürz-valley in an area with optimum conditions for monitoring ground motions. An uninterruptible power supply ensures continuous recordings which are digitized, stored and transmitted to the data centre of the Seismological Service of Austria at the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG) in Vienna. The data are also utilized by international agencies and research institutions for research purposes.
