First geological region map of the Graz Palaeozoic by Conrad CLAR in 1877
by Bernhard Hubmann & Tillfried Cernajsek
Abstract: Conrad Clar (1844–1904) is one of the earliest investigators of the highland area surrounding the city of Graz which subsequently was named “Graz Palaeozoic”. In 1874 Clar erected a stratigraphic scheme of these Palaeozoic successions, and developed a geological map. This map, dated with 1877, is the oldest geological region map of the Graz Palaeozoic but remained unpublished so far and stored in the library of the Geological Survey of Austria in Vienna. Herein we (re-)print Clar’s map and try to shed light on its importance for the investigational history.
