Geochemical and Mineralogical Investigations of Pannonian Sediments in the Clay Pit Mataschen (Styrian Basin, Austria)

by Gerd Rantitsch, Nadja Müller & Fritz Ebner

Abstract: Pannonian sediments of the Eastern Styrian Basin were investigated geochemically and mineralogically in a 24 m thick continuous profile through an open pit clay mine in the area of Fehring (Styria, Austria). The data of this study (mineralogical composition, grain size distribution, major elements, organic carbon, sulfur, kerogen type of the organic matter) reflect the terrestrial filling of a brackish lake.
