Calcareous nannoplankton from the Lower Pannonian of the Eastern Styrian Basin (Austria)
by Stjepan Ćorić & Martin Gross
Abstract: For the first time autochthonous nannoplankton is documented from Mytilopsis ornithopsis-bearing strata at the base of the clay pit Mataschen (Feldbach Formation).
Beside scattered, allochthonous specimens in some samples ?Noelaerhabdus tegulatus occures frequently. This taxon is described using light- and electronmicroscopical methods and classified as Reticulofenestra. For R. tegulata it is the frist record from the M. ornithopsis/M. impressa zone. Possible paleoecological indications of these coccolithes are discussed.
Key Words: Lower Pannonian; Styrian Basin; Calcareous nannoplankton; Reticulofenestra tegulata.
