e.g. A Ticket to Another Planet, 2011
In connection with Simon Starling & Superflex. e.g.
A cross-departmental, pan-Styrian, polyphonic project directed by Simon Starling and Superflex, with Super Eggs by Piet Hein designed in light of a mathematical formula by Gabriel Lamé set within a museum founded by Arch Duke Johann of Austria following an elliptical epiphany by Johannes Kepler.
Throughout human history our understanding of outer space, of the heavens, has been fraught with complex philosophical speculations and contradictions. From its earliest civilizations, man has peopled this unknowably vast expanse with deities of many kinds and these gods or idols have been a driving force behind the creation of myths and religions worldwide, reflecting our existential anxieties in relation to this bewildering infinity. A possible visit by extra-terrestrial beings has similarly been a cornerstone of human culture. While this solid, shiny ‘Super-Egg‘ bears no markings, it is believed that just such a gravity-defying egg was deposited with a shaman following a visitation from outer-space and remains both as a token of that initial contact and as ‘a ticket to another planet’.
